A High-quality Closed Model Generation Approach for Triangular Mesh

To obtain closed mesh model, we propose a novel hole-filling approach on the base of advancing front mesh and bi-umbrella operator. Firstly, identify all holes existed in the mesh model according to the characters of the mesh model. Secondly, the identified holes were triangulated by the improved advancing front mesh method and a series of initial patch meshes over the holes were obtained. Finally, initial patch meshes were optimized by applying the weighted bi-umbrella operator. Experimental results show that the proposed approach performs very well on filling holes of the mesh model, generating high-quality triangles in the holes of the mesh model whilst having smooth transition with the surrounding meshes.
