The noise of X-ray image often affects the defect recognition of a test-piece, so it must preserve those important features of the X-ray image when de-noised. A new method for X-ray image de-noising based on Bi-dimensional Empirical Mode Decomposition (BEMD) and improved median filtering is proposed. Firstly, the noisy X-ray image is decomposed into some IMFs (Intrinsic Mode Functions) by BEMD, and then the first several IMFs are processed by the improved median filtering de-noising method; finally, the image is reconstructed by adding the processed IMFs and the residual component. Experiments show that the proposed method removes the noise effectively, and the details of the image are kept well.
