Let me begin this address by congratulating all the engineers of Indian water utilities for ensuring water supply despite many hardships that are beyond their control. Do you know the biggest secret behind successful implementation of continuous water supply in most of the developed world? Contrary to common belief, it is not the abundance of source water, it is not the affluence of those societies and yes, those water utility engineers do not have magic wands. It is simply strict enforcement of controlled growth of domestic, commercial and industrial areas within the water utility boundary! No question, we do extensive population growth projection calculations and no less than 30 years into the future while designing the water supply systems. But projections are only statistical and their accuracies are always questionable.
