The composition characteristics of the grapes that are obtained in many of the viticultural areas of Romania do offer distinct and authentic qualities to the resulted wines, providing them the possibility to which they are fully entitled, to bear an Origin Denomination. The wines owning a Controlled Origin Denomination can be obtained only by respecting some special conditions, regarding: the viticultural area where it would be produced, the varieties or the kind's varieties that are recommended and authorised for the respective area, the sugar contents of the grapes at the moment of vintage, the alcoholic natural and acquired wine concentration, the upmost grapes' production/ha, the cultivation methods, the wine-making processes, the analytic and organoleptic examination of the wine, its packing, its labelling and the control performed upon the wine. Each of the laws elaborated in Romania regarding the protection of vineyards and wines has taken into account the aim to match with the domain's legislation that is applied by the most important viticultural countries in Europe. From 2000 to 2004, the European Union has supported Romania, since we have adopted the 'Vine and Wine Law' 244/2002, the prescriptions of which are suiting with the ones that are valid in the European Community. Nowadays, when Romania is joing the European Community, our legislation on vine and wines is already corresponding to the legislation of the 'Common House', and the Romanian viticulture came to be acknowledged as owning a long historical tradition, which in time, has created its own viticultural patrimony, where some foreign kinds had left the traces of their presence and influence.
