Radiation of foodstuffs has long been a sensitive issue. After ten years of legislation process there is now a new European set of rules which has to be imp1emented into national 1aw until 20th March 2001. The author portrays the two relevant EC direc- tives and their history and then focusses on the production, marketing and 1abelling of radiated foodstuffs pursuant to European law He also sketches potential conflicts of the new rules with the provisions of the WTO agreements SPS and TBT
