Phaseolus mungo (Blackgram) seeds soaked in 0.25% dilution of bittern germinated earlier (100% on 3rd day), compared to control, and dilutions of 0.1,0.5,1,2.and 5%, respectively. A single plant treated with 0.25% dilution of bittern produced 15 inflorescence, 2-4 legumes, 35 seed pods, 4-8 seeds in a legume and the dry weight of a seed was 62.5 mg which are all much more, compared to control and other dilutions of bittern used. Hence, this study suggests that a dilution of 0.25% bittern of 30°Be can be used as Bittern Liquid Fertilizer (BLF) a micronutrient to the protein rich cereal crop P. mungo for obtaining high yield compared to ordinary manures. Besides utilization of bittern for agricultural purpose would enable to protect the adjacent fertile lands from getting polluted and hence the task can be substantiated as an eco-friendly measure.
