Fluidity and otherness ironically play a very solid role in contemporary European migrant and diasporic cinema, as pointed out by the contributors of the collection European Cinema in Motion. Adding to discussions across cultural, film and media studies, comparative literature and post-colonial studies, the twelve chapters offer a selection dealing with a wide range of themes. Though failing toovercome the reliance on such paradoxically essentialist categories as cinema, diaspora and migration, the volume does provide a useful overview accounting for the entwinement between hybridity and cinema in contemporary Europe.The editors' avowed awareness of the conceptual problems inherent in their terms and definitions, together with their thorough review of current debates and the contributors' own engaging analyses, provide this book with the potential to open up alluring research avenues across disciplinary and textual boundaries. It is along these yet unexplored intellectual paths that this ambitious project might pave the way to other possible endeavours, resulting in an even more radical questioning of European identities and imageries.
