The Media Were American

Thirty years after his book declared The Media Are American, Tunstall has found that the American era of media dominance has passed. This is pretty much explained by the development of national and regional media over the past quarter century. As Tunstall states: most people prefer to be informed and entertained by people "who look the same, talk the same, joke the same, behave the same" as they do (p. xiv). Tunstall is not quite sure about the future, however. His final chapter asks: "American Media Decline to Continue?" His final section (pp. 454-5) answers, "Hard to Predict."
