Handbook of multilevel analysis

The book contains a series of state of the art articles by leading authorities on topics in multilevel analysis. Its contribution is very timely. The topic of multilevel modeling (MLM) has developed and expanded dramatically since the 1980s, and the field is diverging widely. It has always taken a degree of thought for beginners to appreciate that the MLwiN and the HLM software packages are essentially treating the same paradigm, and recent introductions, such as the Bayesian approach of HLM, and the MCMC developments in MLwiN, have meant that the two schools have apparently separated further. This, together with the geographical separation (HLM to the west of the Atlantic, and MLwiN to the East) would almost lead one, in the Darwin anniversary year, to believe that we are seeing the emergence of two separate species.
