A journey in audio, music, and acoustics across four countries

Always passionate about music and sound, I chose to combine my study of computer science with computer-based music production, leading to my first professional audio engineering position with the Korea Broadcasting System (KBS) in 1995. Being a broadcasting engineer seemed a dream job to explore the world of electro-acoustics, and it was a perfect playground where I could mix my artistic interests with technical details in various production for-matsaudio, video, multimedia, and more. However, after spending five years at KBS, I found myself focused on more routine tasks for work efficiency rather than learning about new technologies and applications. I wanted a new challenge and decided to pursue higher education at McGill University, Canada. The move was not easy since I was 7-8 years older than my colleagues in the program and was married with two children already. Nonetheless, my expertise in music production and curiosity about psychoacoustics research propelled me to pursue a Master's degree and continue with doctoral study at McGill University. During my graduate studies, my focus changed drastically from electro-acoustics to psychoacoustics.
