摘要

Jane Devine and Francine Egger-Sider, both librarians at LaGuardia Community College, cite several sources indicating that search engines such as Google index under 10% of the material that is available on the Web. They have written an interesting and thorough guide to locating this "invisible" or "deep" Web content that is not readily accessible via general-purpose Web search engines (Google, Yahoo!, etc.). As most librarians know, Google is typically the starting (and often the ending) point for student research projects; teachers and librarians can adapt strategies to expand students' research capabilities, and can show students how to meld information found in Google with information located in "invisible" sources such as subscription databases and Web directories. This is definitely not an anti-Google book; it is a useful how-to manual for teachers, professors, librarians, and particularly library-school students who are just learning about information literacy.
