Ethical Dilemmas in Community-Based Research: Working with Vulnerable Youth in Rural Communities

摘要

This paper focuses on the community-based research initiatives we have been involved with, both during our history of collaborating on projects together, and our more recent work within university settings. We will specifically focus our discussion on the impact of shifting social contexts and geographic spaces on the ethics of conducting research with Indigenous communities in BC. During this discussion of research ethics, we are assuming that researchers come from a diversity of backgrounds and may be members of the communities in which they work, bringing about unique ethical considerations. Central to our work has been the use of an intersectional framework, the development and process of working within an intersectional research team, and the decolonization of research through questioning dynamics of power in knowledge production.
