We experimentally observe the extent to which the oscillating frequency of a pulse edge depends on the amplitude of the rising step-pulse signal input to a transmission line periodically loaded with Esaki diodes. When the internal impedance of the voltage source is sufficiently small, the oscillation frequency increases with a reduction in voltage amplitude. It is clearly observed that the oscillator is tunable over a much wider frequency range than conventional oscillators with LC tanks.
