Anti-surface warfare (ASuW) is one of the principle roles performed by maritime helicopters. In this realm, naval rotary-wing aviators can find themselves undertaking taskings extending from surface surveillance and maritime picture compilation through to over-the-horizon targeting (providing a fix for a third-party long-range weapon system) and offensive action using organic weapon systems.
