Australia is seeking information on the capabilities of the Boeing E/A-18G Growler electronic attack aircraft but has yet to request United States export approval for the type, a spokesman for Defence Minister Joel Fitzgibbon told Jane's on 18 August. The spokesman said Air Vice Marshal Geoff Brown, deputy chief of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), had been in the US the week before to discuss a variety of issues concerning Australia's purchase of 24 F/A-18F Super Hornet fighters for AUD6.6 billion (USD5.7 billion) including 10 years of follow-on support. "The discussions included the potential for Australia to acquire the Growler but there has been no formal request for export approval," he said.
