With both competing in several international competitions, French defence companies Thales and Sagem were pushing their tactical unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at the Paris Air Show 2013. The main prize for both companies is France's Systeme de Drone Tactique (SDT) programme, although both cited their participation in between five and six export opportunities, including a Qatari tactical UAV requirement. The SDT programme aims to procure a new tactical UAV for the French Army to replace its existing Sagem Sperwer model, procured under the SDTI (SDT Interim) solution. It is understood the SDT competition involves a requirement for around 30 aircraft/systems, with an entry into service date of 2016-2017.
