As US President Barack Obama continues to mull over possible military invention in Iraq, the US Air Force's (USAF's) top civilian leader confirmed on 18 June that the service has an array of aircraft already poised in the region and is prepared to support contingency operations. "The air force is fully engaged in the planning efforts and we are standing by with our sister services," Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James told a group of reporters in Washington, DC. She confirmed that the USAF has about 90-100 manned and unmanned aircraft currently stationed in the Middle East region, deployed on regular rotational assignments.
