The massive burden of levies, new legal regulations and insufficient road and customs infrastructure will drive costs up even higher for Switzerland's road haulage industry. Astag, the Swiss association of commercial vehicle operators expects that the additional expenditure cannot be borne by the industry. Transport prices are therefore likely to rise next year. A survey of Astag's members revealed that freight rates will be hiked by 5-8% in 2009. The increases will be individually arranged.rnAt the meeting of Astag's specialist overland and international groups in Geroldswil (Zurich) on 20 September, the mood was upbeat but not euphoric. The much bruited economic slowdown has (still) not had any effects. The general feeling is that there is now a need is to find the right position in the market and implement the correct rates for freight.
