RZD to renew passenger train fleet

Russian Railways (RZD) has drawn up two investment scenarios for the period 2010-20 for the new Federal Passenger Company (FPC) which it plans to set up as an independent subsidiary responsible for long-distance passenger services.rnThe baseline scenario calls for an investment of Roubles 257.4 billion ($US 8.5 billion) while the ambitious scenario would see Roubles 442.5 billion being invested.rnMost of the investment will be in rolling stock. Under the baseline plan, 1540 coachesrnwould be purchased during the next three years, followed by another 4080 coaches between 2013 and 2020. This compares with 1698 coaches by 2013 and 6864 coaches in the 2013-20 period under the ambitious scenario.
