Applied Acoustic Engineering, based in the east coast town of Great Yarmouth, UK, has been designing and manufacturing subsea acoustic products since 1989. Established by engineer Adam Darling, the company initially supported North Sea oil and gas exploration companies but now sells to a multitude of commercial companies, academic institutions and national maritime defence forces worldwide, having really 'spread its wings' over the last 25 years. Last year alone the company exported to more than 61 different countries and its products can be found in the oceans right across the globe. In the west, Applied Acoustics' equipment is on vessels off the USA up as far as Alaska, and down the Pacific into the fjords of Chile. In the east, Japanese Navy divers are fitted with Applied Acoustics' beacons, as are New Zealand's oceanographic ships.
