摘要

Rome—Livestock generate as much as 18 percent of the world's greenhouse gas emissions, according to a report released Nov. 29 by the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization, which has called for better land- and water-use policies to help contain the emissions.rnThe report, Livestock's Long Shadow— Environmental Issues and Options, says that factors including animal flatulence, land degradation, and the use of dirty fuel made from manure emit more greenhouse gases than transportation.
