The crude that is actually processed in most countries has many impurities (e.g. sulfur species) and high acid values (TAN), therefore, the development of new technologies is necessary in order to control the corrosion in such media. Flow rate, concentration of sulfur species, total acid number (TAN), temperature and alloys chromium content are the most important parameters in corrosion control. However, it is difficult to correlate one variable with another in order to measure their combined effect on corrosion rate due to synergistic effects (e.g. the evolution of H_2S depends on the temperature and the nature of sulfur compounds). The combined effect of different variables may cause uniform corrosion and/or localized corrosion. The objective of this work is to show qualitative and semiquantitative effects of these variables on the crude oil mixtures corrosivity.
