World Bank Amps Up Climate Efforts in Plan To Increase Clean Energy Funding by 2020

The World Bank, in a broad plan aimed at accelerating its efforts to combat climate change, vowed April 7 to ramp up by 50 percent its funding of clean energy projects and mobilize another $25 billion in commercial clean energy financing by 2020. The "World Bank Group Climate Change Action Plan" calls for increasing from $2.3 billion to $3.5 billion its direct funding of clean energy projects over the next five years. It also pledged a broader effort to protect those most vulnerable to severe weather and other disasters, particularly in developing nations.
