Argentina is a major hydrocarbons producer and it has great potential to increase its current production. In Argentina there are 19 sedimentary basins with a total surface area of 1,750,000sqkm, at least five of them continue on Argentina's continental shelf, while others continue below the sea. It also has great potential in unconventional oil and gas. According to the US Energy Information Administration, Argentina has the second largest technically recoverable shale gas resources in the world behind China (802 trillion cubic feet), and the fourth largest technically recoverable resources of shale oil (27 billion barrels).
