According to PRC National Bureau of Statistic, China's coal consumption and production fell last year for the first time in 14 years. According to the official data, china's coal output last year fell 2.5 per cent to 3.87 billion metric tons, while coal consumption declined 2.9 per cent. However, coal still accounted for 66 per cent of energy consumption in the year of 2014. In addition, China aims to reduce coal use of at least 83 million tons by 2017, in accordance with the energy development strategy jointly established by the National Development and Reform Commission and the six relevant government departments. Specifically, the energy strategy sets target to cut coal use in the capital city Beijing and the big consuming regions of Tianjin, Hebei and Shandong provinces.
