Looking at recent and current UK construction activity, it would seem that the industry has had something of a boom time, with a raft of huge projects in varying stages of completion. The projects finished or reaching the finishing stages in the past year read like a catalogue of British engineering innovation - for instance the opening of the internationally reputed second Severn Bridge, the completion of major elements in the highly complex Jubilee Line underground extension (albeit with an overrun on its original ambitious schedule), and the inspired circumventing of serious foundation problems on the Heathrow Express rail lines.
