The end of grand strategy: US maritime operations in the twenty-first century

Works on grand strategy usually revolve around two axes: theory and practice. Studies of theory debate what constitutes power and the utility of the concept of grand strategy (why aren't the strategic, operational and tactical levels of war enough), and the nature of the state using power in such a fashion. The practical approach investigates the people, processes, threats, objectives and decision-making that combine to make grand strategy. One of the fundamental aspects of either approach, however, is that definitions, concepts and language must be consistent and clear in meaning and intent. The work under review here does not adhere to these basic tenets of grand strategy analysis.
