At the heart of William Browder's fight against the Russian authorities is a complicated web of fraud allegations and counterclaims stemming from the disappearance of $230 million. In June 2007 police carried out coordinated raids of the Moscow offices of Hermitage Capital Management and its law firm, Firestone Duncan, and seized documents pertaining to various Hermitage investment vehicles.
