While it is possible to buy a very fine luxury vessel from Finland, Italy, South Africa or the UK, when the world's most solvent customers want a really complex and voluminous superyacht (>100 m length), then this clientele is often compelled by their own standards and expectations to approach German or Dutch shipyards. Of the 20 or so projects currently under construction, at least 15 are being built at shipyards in these two countries - the industry is more than economical with exact order figures. There are circa another 20 enquiries piling up with very medium-term delivery, ranging from 80 to around 140 m lengths. There are said to be seven yachts of similar sizes in various stages of completion at industry leader Luerssen alone. Neighbouring Abeking & Rasmussen has one underway and the Lloyd shipyard just delivered the 140-metre »Solaris«. As usual, the names of customers are not discussed. However, it is no secret that Russian oligarchs, American tech entrepreneurs and Arab ruling families are said to prefer German-built yachts.
