Recently, weighted processing techniques were proposed to combat the noise enhancement effectin the conventional UWB communications. However, weighted processing requires transmission of training symbols, which incur energy loss and data rate reduction. In this paper, we propose a low complexity energy detection receiver based on the multiple symbols differential detection (MSDD), which jointly detects blocksof received symbols without requiring training, and reduced-complexity algorithm is proposed to enable practical implementations at desired performance versus complexity tradeoffs. Simulations in multipath fadingscenarios show that the proposed receiver performs better than the conventional energy detection receiver(CEDR), and with the increase of symbol block size, its performances approach those of the ideal weight edenergy detection receiver (WEDR).
