Red Hat, Ingres Stack The Deck

Red hat and ingres hope to do for transaction processing what the open source LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) has done for application development in other areas. The Red Hat-Ingres offering-a combination of the Linux operating system, JBoss middleware, and Ingres database-is neither a duplicate of LAMP nor a replacement. Instead, the companies say they have created an enterprise-ready stack tuned for high-performance transaction-processing environments. The new stack includes the JBoss ap- plication server, Hibernate object/relational mapping, and JBoss Enterprise Portal, along with Ingres 9.2. Released last month, Ingres 9.2 provides stronger support for Unicode and a wider variety of languages. It also has improved support for interfaces to other databases, including ODBC, Java Database Connect, and Microsoft .Net Data Provider.
