摘要

In this era of 140-character interactions on Twitter, it may seem as if long-form reading is on the decline. But the latest study from the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project, "E-Reading Rises as Device Ownership Jumps," reports that reading is actually alive and well: 76% of American adults (aged 18 and older) read at least one book (in print, on an e-reader, or as an audiobook) in 2013. According to the report, readers were more likely to pick up a print book (69%) than an ebook (28%). E-reading is on the upswing, however, with an increase from 17% in 2011 to 23% in 2012, though only 4% of respondents read ebooks exclusively last year. Fourteen percent of those surveyed listened to an audiobook last year, but that's not an exclusive practice either: 84% also read a print book, while 56% read an ebook as well. About half of the respondents (52%) read only print books last year.
