Two recent papers provide some insight into how magnetic field sensors are being developed to meet the needs of today's and tomorrow's systems. In the first place, Hall sensors are a relatively low profile component market. Shipped in their millions, they are at the heart of a wide range of products from computer hard drives to spacecraft. Despite their maturity, there is still room for further refinement. Arrays of sensors are needed for some applications, while critical measurements require single sensors built from more sophisticated material structures.
