The fight for control of internet traffic [Editor's Note]

ho controls where and how traffic flows in the Internet? Of course, no one can have complete control over the entire Internet. That has not stopped companies and national governments from trying to gain as much control as possible. For companies, control of Internet traffic means profits and leverage over competitors. Governments want access (lawful intercept) of Internet traffic as a tool against criminals and terrorists. The fight for control has been going on for a long time, mainly in Internet access. News headlines this week (in early August) reminded me that the fight still continues. One big story concerned Research in Motion (RIM), and a second news story was about Google-Verizon.
