The purpose of my contribution to this colloquy was to spark conversation on the theoretical nature of communication processes and the evidentiary requirements for testing their relationship to group outcomes. I am well pleased with the other contributions to this colloquy in advancing this conversation. Bonito, Gouran, Meyers, Pavitt, Sanders, and Seibold have raised important issues concerning the philosophical basis of the SM and dual-level connectionist models (DLCMs), their theoretical assumptions, and the epistemological requirements for testing these. Some issues mentioned by the co-discussants are not considered here due to space limitations, though they are important. I will return to those missing in subsequent work.
