A total of 7,248 potentially contaminated sites have been assessed and $7.2 billion was leveraged from other public and private sources for cleanup and redevelopment since the Small Business Liability Relief and Brownfields Revitalization Act was signed into law on January 11, 2002, according to the 2005 Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) brownfields report.
