A request for an accommodation under the Fair Housing Act to operate a group home in a residential neighborhood was reasonable and necessary, ruled the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas, Jonesboro Division. (King's Ranch of Jonesboro, Inc., v. City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, No. 3:10CV00096 JLH, 2011 WL 1544697 (E.D. Ark.), April 25, 2011) King's Ranch, an Arkansas nonprofit corporation, purchased 10.5 acres with a 5,000-square-foot home in a residential neighborhood in the city of Jonesboro to operate as a home for up to eight abused, neglected, and abandoned children, with two full-time house parents. The city's zoning resolution requires more than five unrelated persons living in a single-family home to obtain a conditional use permit to operate as a "group residential."
