On March 1st, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report on the role of syndicators in low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) transactions. Low-Income Housing Tax Credit: The Role of Syndicators describes the role of syndicators in the LIHTC market, the factors that influence their use, and the characteristics of active syndicators in the LIHTC market. Since 1986, the 32 syndicators surveyed for the report have raised more than $100 billion in LIHTC equity. Those funds have helped fund more than 20,000 properties and placed 1.4 million units in service through 2014.
