NAIM'S DIGITAL CONVERSION

Nairn's journey to become one of the more innovative British companies in the field of digital has been a curious one. The company produced no CD player for the first eight years of the life of the format, and even after the launch of the CDS was hardly prolific in the field - although the early models were well regarded and good performers. All early designs were characterised by having no digital output. The arrival of the Supernait amplifier in 2007 complete with digital inputs therefore raised a few eyebrows and marked something of a change in philosophy. Thereafter the launch of server and streaming equipment saw increasing use of digital inputs and outputs supported by jitter reduction technology developed for the most surprising release of all, the Nairn DAC. It's worth noting that our review pairing of ND5 XS and Supernait sports no fewer than seven digital inputs between them: a remarkable number for any two-channel system and incredible for a company that never used to fit them at all.
