摘要

The Digital Conversion Interest Group, part of the Association for Libraries and Technical Collections (ALCTS) Preservation & Reformatting Section (PARS), held its annual meeting on Saturday, June 22 during the 2019 American Library Association Annual Conference. Following policy established in the previous year, the American Library Association (ALA) allots one hour for interest group meetings. In their original call for presentation proposals, cochairs Stefan Elnabli (Media Curation Librarian at the University of California, San Diego) and Viriginia Dressier (Digital Projects Librarian at Kent State University Libraries) put forth a common theme of "Digital Scholarship." Abby Smith Rumsey, Director Scholarly Communication Institute, defines this form of scholarship as follows: "Digital scholarship is the use of digital evidence and method, digital authoring, digital publishing, digital curation and preservation, and digital use and reuse of scholarship."1 Topics in this theme relate to projects or theories centered on any of the following: digital evidence and method, digital authoring, digital publishing, digital curation, and preservation, as well as digital use and reuse of scholarship. Digital conversion often acts as the first step in digital scholarship endeavors and informs the way in which technical services staff reformat materials, what considerations are made in terms of what is essential for a reformatting project to help scholars meet their goals. Presentations accepted incorporated scholarly use of digitized materials into their narrative. In addition to introducing the cochairs, Elnabli let attendees know that an upcoming ballot would be set out to ALCTS members to decide the next cochair to serve a 2019-2021 term. Voting took place from July 1 through July 10. Roger Smith, Digital Library Development Program Director at UC San Diego Library, won the election and will serve as cochair alongside Dressier next year. After these administrative announcements and introductions, the audience of approximately 30 people listened to the following two presentations detailing innovative approaches to digital scholarship taking place across the globe.
