Traditional hi-fi wisdom has taught us over the years that a package system will compare unfavourably with an eclectic mix of apparently mismatched equipment which, in certain golden combinations, will yield optimal results. By necessity, aesthetics and ergonomics must take a back seat when following this approach, but for some this only serves to reinforce its validity. And yet two of the highpoints of the vintage hi-fi year concerned products that broke all the rules in this respect. The first was the Aurex System 15 micro system [see p113] - a matching set of components which, although available separately, were most usually sold as a complete set-up.
