There can't be many pieces of music to have acquired a nickname over 180 years after composition. But when the Swedish film director Bo Wilderburg used the slow movement of Mozart's C major Piano Concerto, K467, for his 1967 film Elvira Madigan, using the DC LP recording by Geza Anda, the concerto would often be given that name as new recordings appeared, as though somehow authentic. DG meanwhile quickly changed the sleeve design [see adjacent pic] to a still from the film showing the actress Pia Degermark. It reappears on the 'Original Masters' reissue CD front [447 4362]. Anda's version is part of his complete Mozart series with the Salzburg Mozarteum Camerata Academica. It's by some margin my preferred pianist-directed cycle, and with cadenzas mostly Anda's own.
