摘要

Continuum mechanics plays a major role in engineering and science, especially in areas such as elasticity, plasticity, solid mechanics, and thermal-fluid sciences. The conservation principles and constitutive relations elaborated in continuum mechanics are used extensively in almost any thermal-fluid research. Numerous books have been written on the subject, but this book has unique features that make it somewhat different from the conventional books. One unique feature is attention to microscopic constituents of the material. Traditionally, continuum models are based on the assumption of continuity and indivisibility of materials. Widespread success of such models in engineering has downplayed the importance of the linkage between microscopic and macroscopic material behaviors. Another feature of the book is rigorous mathematical treatment of the subject.
