This book briefly covers the thermal-fluid aspect of nuclear power plants. There are seven chapters in this book. After the first introductory chapter, which provides the background and context, Chapter 2 is on basic nuclear power generation. Concepts such as nuclear fuel cycle, nuclear physics, radioactivity and decay, radiation, containment systems, natural Uranium reactors, and thermal reactors are addressed in this chapter. Chapter 3 is on Core Neutronics, while Chapter 4 is on some reactor designs. Chapter 5 covers the thermal analysis of the core. Heat transfer concepts such as heat production, temperature distribution, core design, boiling, and critical heat flux are discussed. Chapter 6 is an introduction to multiphase flows, and it covers flow regimes, pressure drop, vaporization, and multiphase flow instability. The final chapter of the book, Chapter 7, is on reactor multiphase flows and accidents. In this chapter, safety systems, major accidents such as Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, Fukushima, and other accidents are discussed. The chapter concludes with a presentation of hypothetical accident analyses.
