Manila Water, the capital's east zone concessionaire has confirmed that it is indeed interested in taking over bankrupt Maynilad Water Services, operator of the west zone whose creditors have finally agreed to a court-arranged rehabilitation plan. Manila Water president Antonino Aquino, in the letter of April 28, said the decision was spurred by an invitation from several parties for Manila Water to take over the operations of its cash-strapped rival. On the same day, a receiver submitted a plan to the court approved by Maynilad's creditors to revive the company. Manila Water stressed however, that it wants due diligence to be carried out first. Striking a note of caution Aquino said the company was studying the proposal but nevertheless felt it was qualified to bid.
