Despite much attention from scholars, relations between Africa's societies and their environments defy the generalisation so sought after by global policy makers. Successes are real, but so are persistent performance failures in the agricultural sector. This book is Philip Porter's long-awaited and lovingly presented synthesis of four decades of research and reflection on Tanga Region in Tanzania.
