Infinite compassion

When we talk about whether something is true, we mean that what appears accords with the way a thing really exists. And whatever the level of discussion, whatever the issue, when there is a discrepancy between appearance and reality, we regard it as untrue. Indeed, much of the pain we encounter is due to our failure to understand reality. Too often our judgment and behavior are confined only to the level of appearances, and so we experience various kinds of suffering. It is not that what is true is somehow sacred in and of itself, but that discovering and understanding what is true is crucial to our achieving happiness.
