By wine world standards, foster's Brewing's $1.5 billion acquisition of Beringer Wine Estates is big news. But these are early days of consolidation in the heady wine business, a globally fragmented $100 billion sector where no player holds more than a 1% market share. The growing concentration of wine retailing and distribution is pushing producers to team up. And that is going to mean more deals that blend Australian and Californian labels.
