Shellfish contaminated with biotoxins can make people ill and in some cases can result in fatalities. That is why it is important that the risks associated with biotoxins in all live bivalve molluscs (LBMs; or filter-feeding shellfish) are managed appropriately by everyone involved in the supply chain.
