With Branston breathing down her neck, regulators asking tricky questions about her latest acquisition and sales for the year to April 30 looking distinctly sluggish, it's no wonder Jane Miller is at her desk at Heinz's Hayes Park HQ at 6.30am every morning. But she's not weeping into her cream of tomato or launching some kind of dawn offensive to make staff feel they have to beat her into work every day to return the business to its former glory. "For God's sake, don't write that I'm here at dawn to see who gets in first," she says. "I'm just an early bird. The pressure is on, but it also has to be fun. At the end of the day, we're just selling ketchup and beans."
